On Saturday, Jan. 16, Bartram Trail Academies had several student and parent volunteers work with Habitat for Humanity in St. Augustine.

The volunteers were able to create and put up the framing for the outside of a new home. They worked alongside the homeowner and other Habitat for Humanity homeowners who were performing their sweat equity hours as part of the project.

Participating from the Drafting Academy were juniors Colin Shepherd and Brendon Shepherd and sophomore Julie DeDeo. Sophomores Miguel DiDeo and Ricky DiDeo, both from the VyStar Business and Finance Academy, also participated.

Michelle Kisch, Bartram Trail High School Academy coordinator said, “This was a great community service experience for our academy students. We have scheduled two more dates; one on Feb. 20  and another on March 5.”

Kisch also said that the Academies intend to expand their service program and volunteer more with Habitat for Humanity next year.
