The Rotary Club of Bartram Trail’s Teacher of the Quarter recognition was recently presented by the club’s president, Michael Andreoni. This quarter’s honoree was Hickory Creek Elementary teacher Mindy Gilleland, a speech and language pathologist.

Gilleland, joined by her family, was honored and humbled as she accepted the award.

“Waking up loving my job and feeling like a rockstar obtaining high fives and hugs each day makes Hickory my happiest place ever!” she said.

Gilleland was nominated by Hickory Creek Principal Bethany Groves, who noted the connection between language exploration and increased self-confidence by Gilleland for her more than 80 students will prepare them to communicate their passion effectively in the future.

“It’s Your Thing”, a monthly buddy activity program established and led by Gilleland, helps build relationships in a safe environment for students challenged with socialization while supporting the community.  Examples include creating candy grams to benefit the American Heart Association and making lap quilts for the residents of Westminster Woods.

The Rotary Club of Bartram Trail works with school principals on a quarterly basis for nominations of teachers that exemplify excellence in education in our local community.

The Rotary Club of Bartram Trail typically meets on Thursday mornings at 7:30 a.m. at Westminster Woods. Visit www.bartramtrailrotary.org for more information.
