It took only 45minutes to fill every time slot, and I photographed over 200 women and girls.”Inspired by a quote that hung in her childhood bathroom (“Here's to good women. May we knowthem, may we be them, may we raise them”) and the current social climate, Alexander set out tocapture strong females of the First Coast. Out of the more than 200 photographs, Alexander chose 30to transform into oil paintings. She’s also created a coffee table book for the series.“When each woman or girl came to my studio, I had them write in their own words the answer to thequestion: What do you think it means to be a good woman?” Alexander explains. “I took thepaintings, photography, handwritten words, and gouache illustrations and put together a book that Ihope will instill strength in future generations of strong women.”First edition, hardcover, and signed copies of Stripes and Buns: A Tribute To Good Women will beavailable ($65) for pre-order at jenna-alexander.com/product/stripesandbunsbook/ starting onNovember 15th as well as for sale at the opening of Jenna Alexander’s Stripes and Buns series onThursday, December 6th.ABOUT JENNA ALEXANDERA St. Augustine, Florida based painter, photographer, and illustrator, Jenna Alexander describes herwork as “simple, candid, airy, and beautiful.” Alexander’s previously released art series include SaltRun, Salt Run Silver, Naptime Botanicals, and the Even Me Project. The Artisan Market will remain on display throughout the month of December. The Artisan Market's collection of works is an incredible homage to the natural environment and displays unbelievable mastery of artistic mediums, including pottery, photography, painting, and fabric work. This collection is specifically geared toward arts and crafts lovers, with local artists exhibiting works perfect for integrating into one's home or gifting to a loved one.Notable artists include Tim Bullard, whose pottery work uses many styles and techniques - some original, some ancient. They are all unique and include Raku-fired ware, Tortured Surfaces, paper clay, and porcelain. Amy Dove is a dyed-in-the-wool fiber artist. Fibers and textiles, tactile and malleable in nature, present Dove with so many creative possibilities. Her hand-dyed silk and wool fibers and fabrics are the basis of her artworks. Through felting, she builds her concepts into form and dimension, while creating rich textures and patterns of saturated colors. A key concept in her work is Wabi Sabi, the Japanese expression of the imperfection in nature that makes it beautiful.  It also conveys the impermanence of nature and the simple truths that change is the only constant, everything is in flux, and nothing is perfect. This concept is evident in her Artisan Market collection. Finally, the work of Masha Sardari takes on a new look at traditional photography. At exhibitions, many mistake her work for painting as she masterfully utilizes a painterly style in her images. Her work is conceptually based on the natural environment, culture, and history. Each piece is softly lit with a natural light source and deeply saturated with color. Her work draws in viewers and creates a sense of wonder.Other artists such as laird, Marlene Scheer, Valarie Forrester, Karen Bullard, Midge Scelzo, and Simran Arora are showing extraordinary work. Visit the CCPVB to view this incredible show and shop.

    12:00 pm-2:00 pm
    12/12/2018
521 A1A North in Ponte Vedra, Fl

CHABAD @ THE BEACHES OFFERS Women’s Book Club Luncheon

Chabad @ the Beaches presents the seventh annual women’s Jewish book club. Every month the club meets and discusses a new book.. All who choose can pre-order lunch from Gili’s Kitchen  by Wednesday 3:00 P.M. for delivery to Chabad. The books will cover a wide variety of topics. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, share your thoughts and opinions, hear other people’s insights, and enjoy a great meal. The first local meeting will take place Wednesday, December 12 at 12:00 PM at Chabad at the Beaches 521 A1A North in Ponte Vedra. This club is free of charge. Reservations are required.

In December, the club will meet and discuss “The Other Einstein” by Marie Benedict.

The Other Einstein offers us a window into a brilliant, fascinating woman whose light was lost in Einstein's enormous shadow. It is the story of Einstein's wife, a brilliant physicist in her own right, whose contribution to the special theory of relativity is hotly debated and may have been inspired by her own profound and very personal insight.

Mitza Maric has always been a little different from other girls. Most twenty-year-olds are wives by now, not studying physics at an elite Zurich university with only male students trying to outdo her clever calculations. But Mitza is smart enough to know that, for her, math is an easier path than marriage. And then fellow student Albert Einstein takes an interest in her, and the world turns sideways. Theirs becomes a partnership of the mind and of the heart, but there might not be room for more than one genius in a marriage. - Amazon

For anyone wanting to eat lunch while discussing books, contact Gili’s Kitchen at (904) 475-1400 by 3:00 PM the Tuesday before book club. For more information on this or other Chabad @ the Beaches programs and events, visit  www.Chabadbeaches.com or call 904-543-9301. To RSVP, email leah@chabadbeaches.com or text 904-504-0451.
