Nestled among the oaks behind the Mandarin Crossing shopping center on Oldfield Crossing Road is Mandarin’s best kept secret: the Mandarin St. Johns Elks Lodge #2866.

The Elks are a national organization with nearly a million members and a 141-year history. Elks are part of a generous organization that each year provides millions of dollars in scholarships, offers youth activities and supports veterans’ programs. Additionally, they sponsor one of the top youth camps in the country and provide children’s physical therapy services to special needs children throughout Florida at no cost.

The year 2015 was busy for Elks all over the country and the Mandarin St. Johns Elks Lodge was no exception. Some of their social and charitable events included a Sweethearts’ Dinner, Monte Carlo night, an ‘80s Party, Cinco de Mayo celebration, a luau, a wheelchair repair clinic, monthly Bingo at the Clyde E. Lassen State Veterans’ Nursing Home, a holiday party to benefit the Divine Mercy House and several food drives to benefit the Mandarin Food Bank.

The Elks are always looking for new members. If you are interested in becoming a member of an active, civic-minded, family-oriented organization, stop by the Lodge at 4280 Oldfield Crossing Drive on Tuesday through Saturday evenings. For more information call or text Dan Henderson at (702) 325-5799 or email the Lodge secretary, msj2010elks@yahoo. com
