Heart of Jacksonville showcases African violets
The Heart of Jacksonville African Violet Society is having its annual Show and Sale, April 1 from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. and April 2 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the San Jose Church of Christ, 6233 San Jose Blvd. This judged show will feature many varieties of African violets and other gesneriads that are seldom seen by the public as well as two free seminars each day.
Volunteers needed for memory care
The Council on Aging’s new Memory Care Center is now open at 1050 A1AN in Ponte Vedra Beach and volunteers are needed. Positions include Memory Enhancement program assistants, clerical help and receptionists. Volunteers are needed preferably on Mondays from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., but hours can be flexible. Southside Newcomers Club seeks members. The Southside Newcomers Club welcomes members from the Jacksonville area. Prospective members can be new to the area or have experienced a lifestyle change. Activities include game days, Bunco, Mah Jongg, bridge and Canasta. Groups participate in beading, book clubs, movie outings, lunches, line dancing and dinner events. Upcoming day trips include a trip to the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens on March 17 and an overnight trip to Savannah on April 27 and 28. ACT and SAT prep courses offered. The Friends of the Bartram Trail Public Library will conduct another set of ACT and SAT Prep Courses beginning Monday, April 11 and each Monday until May 9. The SAT class is from 5 p.m. until 6:15 p.m. and the ACT class will be from 6:30 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. The classes will be held in the William Bartram Room at the public library and taught by certified teachers with many years of experience in ACT and SAT test preparation. Each course consists of four instructional classes and one practice test. The fee for each course is $40, which includes all four classes and the practice test. Each student will also be required to purchase a test prep book. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Twin Lakes Academy Elementary hosts Curriculum Night and Stakeholders’ meeting
Twin Lakes Academy Elementary school will give parents and caregivers the opportunity to review and discuss all aspects of the school’s curriculum at Curriculum Night, to be held on Thursday, Jan. 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This free school-wide event is open to all Twin Lakes Academy Wildcat students and their families.
