The St. Johns County Library Summer Reading Program, “Adventure Begins at Your Library,” runs through July 27. The Bartram Branch Library, and other libraries across St. Johns County, aim to create an exciting summer at the library with story times, special events, teen crafts, and interesting workshops each week.
Designed to promote educational and family-friendly summer fun, the St. Johns County Public Library invites the community to visit the library and participate in this year’s reading event. Participants may pick up their free reading logs from any library branch to earn prizes for every five days tracked.
Additionally, more than 100 fun and educational events are planned throughout the “adventure,” along with regularly scheduled story time, book club, and STEM programs. Patrons are encouraged to stop by any of the six St. Johns County Public Library branches and enjoy various programs that offer:
- Camping-themed family fun, including games, scavenger hunts, story time, and more.
- Fun for the whole family at various movie matinees.
- Educational and up-close experiences with nature presented by partner organizations, including Marineland, Wild Wonders, Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve, and the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens.
- Nature Detective workshops hosted by the Garden Club of St. Augustine explore the world of monarch butterflies.
- Magic shows with Magician Mark Alan.
- Arts, crafts, and trivia.
As community partners in education, the St. Johns County Public Library System encourages families to read together during the summer break.
“Librarians understand that children who don’t read and learn during their summer break fall behind. It’s called the ‘summer slide,’” St. Johns County Public Library Director Debra Rhodes Gibson said. “Our Summer Reading Program offers incentives to keep reading skills sharp ahead of the new school year.”
