The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office and Neighbors by Ring brings Community Watch Partners to St. Johns County, a modern day neighborhood watch program that allows platform users to provide the community with real-time, local crime and safety information. This application, which is available for both Apple and Android, is a new version of the neighborhood watch: by allowing users to share videos, photos, and text based posts with other users of the app as well as receive real time safety alerts from neighbors, local law enforcement and the Ring team.
It is the hope of the SJSO that the community will become Watch Partners with law enforcement to help prevent crime and solve cases. Users do not have to have the Ring doorbell or cameras to use the app; they can upload any video or photo they have on their mobile device.
How It Works
- Download the Neighbors app (iOS/Android).
- Opt-in to join your neighborhood.
- Customize the geographic area you want to receive notifications for (users must verify where they are located and cannot participate in other neighborhoods).
- Receive real-time alerts from your neighbors, local law enforcement and the Ring team that inform of crime and safety alerts as they happen.
- View local crime and safety posts via a live feed or interactive map.
- Share text updates, photos and videos taken on any device, including Ring’s home security devices.
- Work with your community to make neighborhoods safer
St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office will be holding four informational Community Watch Meetings over the next month to help the public understand how the application works as well as register Home Owner Associations to receive new Watch Signs for their neighborhoods. They are:
- April 10, 2019 at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- April 16, 2019 at Fruit Cove Baptist Church, 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- April 23, 2019 at Turning Point Church, 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- May 1, 2019 at Riverview Club at The Shores, 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office encourages all homeowners associations presidents to attend one of these meetings with a list of locations of their current neighborhood watch signs and how many new signs are needed.
