Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, was the 15-year anniversary of the tragedy of 9/11 and, with it, brought a strong reminder of the sacrifices that were made not just on that fateful day but every day for our men and women in uniform. For one local group it was the perfect opportunity to share their appreciation and to remind our youth of the valor of first responders.

Helping Hands of Nocatee / St. Johns CARES Kids provided a warm home cooked meal for each of the three shifts at Station 18 Nocatee, the newest fire station in St. Johns County.

In the afternoon, parents and children were invited into the fire station for a tour of the vehicles and children’s storytime. They enjoyed making a colorful banner thanking the first responders and presented it for display on the wall of the fire station.
