With THE PLAYERS Championship rapidly approaching, tournament officials announced today that volunteer registration will remain open through Friday, April 8. Anyone in the Northeast Florida area and nationwide is encouraged to apply to become one of the roughly 2,100 volunteers that make THE PLAYERS possible. Volunteering at THE PLAYERS is a way for golf fans and those looking to support an event that gives millions of dollars back to the community to become a part of the team that works tirelessly to make the tournament a showcase of excellence. Those who wish to apply to be a volunteer at THE PLAYERS this year should visit theplayervolunteers.com.
“Our volunteer teams are the heart of THE PLAYERS Championship,” said Michele McManamon, tournament chairman for THE PLAYERS. “We are proud to work with more than 2,000 dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to make THE PLAYERS a true shrine to golf fans and a fantastic experience for the best players in the world.”
Volunteers at THE PLAYERS are placed into committees, with jobs ranging from on-course duties like acting as a Marshal during the tournament to other support roles assisting players and fans. The two committees still yet to be filled for THE PLAYERS 2016 are Corporate Hospitality and Tournament Support. Corporate Hospitality volunteers provide information and assistance to corporate clients to create the best possible experience. They ensure that only properly credentialed clients are permitted in private hospitality areas, as well as assist Marshals with noise control when players approach hospitality areas. Tournament Support volunteers handle ropes in the practice area to allow players to move freely during the week, as well as provide support to the equipment representatives and various hospitality venues. These volunteers also may be asked to assist with situations that require special attention, including escorting players, providing services to guests with disabilities and other issues that arise.
For the week, volunteers at THE PLAYERS pay a fee of $75, which covers the cost of the uniform (tournament branded shirt and headwear), as well as a credential that is good for the entire week. All youth volunteer positions have been filled.
