City honors neighborhood leaders at 2025 Neighborhood Awards

The City of Tallahassee recognized residents and neighborhood associations for their efforts to strengthen and improve their communities during the 2025 Neighborhood Awards, held Oct. 6 at The Parkview at Cascades.

For more than 40 years, the city’s Neighborhood Awards program has highlighted the contributions of residents and neighborhood leaders who work to enhance the quality of life in their communities. This year’s event drew residents from across Tallahassee’s nearly 300 neighborhoods to celebrate collaboration, engagement, and community pride.

Awards were presented in several categories recognizing outstanding neighborhoods, individual residents, and successful neighborhood programs. Each Neighborhood of the Year recipient received $500 to support a community project.

Outstanding Neighborhood of the Year

Small Neighborhood (fewer than 200 homes) — Lucerne at Woodlands Homeowners Association

Large Neighborhood (more than 200 homes) — Killearn Homes Association

Outstanding Neighbor of the Year

Neighborhood Advocacy — Vandon Jones, Jake Gaither Neighborhood Association

Neighborliness — Mike Brezin, Betton Hills Neighborhood Association

Best Neighborhood Program of the Year

Physical Improvement

  • First Place: Avalon at Maclay Neighborhood Association
  • Second Place: Waverly Hills Neighborhood Association
  • Third Place: Jake Gaither Neighborhood Association

Social Improvement

  • First Place: Villas at Pine Forest Homeowners Association
  • Second Place (tie): Waverly Hills Neighborhood Association and Jake Gaither Neighborhood Association

Communication

  • First Place: Griffin Heights Neighborhood Association
  • Second Place: Jake Gaither Neighborhood Association
  • Third Place: SummerBrooke Property Owners Association
