March 4, the I Did A Hike. This is the primary annual fundraiser for the Florida Trail Association (a non-profit). The registration fee is $20. All proceeds go to supporting the Florida Trail.
This year’s hike is fairly close by — along the Suwanee River, near White Springs, FL. There are three potential hike lengths — 3, 5 and 8 1/2 miles. The route is very picturesque, paralleling the Suwanee River in many places.
Registration will be at the Heritage Welcome Center, 10499 Spring Street, White Springs, FL, from 8-10am. Note this is NOT inside the Stephen Foster Cultural Center Park. From the registration area hikers will be ferried to the hike start point. End point is back at the Heritage Welcome Center.
Hikers travel at their own pace. There is minimal change in elevation. The trail is well marked (blazed) and easy to follow. Hikers are advised to wear comfortable close toed shoes, dress in layers, wear a hat, and apply sun screen and bug spray. It’s also advisable to bring a bottle of water per hiker on the trip and a snack. Hikers can either pack a lunch or purchase lunch in town.
