The Rotary Club of Mandarin’s fourth annual 5K race and 1 Mile Fun Run will be held on Saturday, April 26. The event kicks off at 8 a.m. for the 5K and 9 a.m. for the 1 Mile Fun Run, starting and finishing at Mandarin Presbyterian Church, 2501 Loretto Road.
“Lace up your running shoes and get ready for a fun-filled morning,” said Rotarian Leo Gurman.
The race is primarily for the benefit of the Mandarin Food Bank at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Daily Bread Food Pantry at Mandarin Presbyterian Church. Runners can help feed the hungry by bringing a canned good to packet pickup or on race day.
Last year, with more than 475 runners participating and contributions from valued sponsors, the Rotary Club of Mandarin donated more than $36,000 to local charities, including a combined $25,000 to the Mandarin Food Bank and Daily Bread Food Pantry. This year, they aim to surpass that amount.
The Rotary Club of Mandarin has a long history of supporting local and international charities, thanks to the generous support of local businesses and residents. In recent years, they have provided seven thermal imaging cameras to the Mandarin division of Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, grants to K-9s for Warriors, donations to Polio Plus (a program to eradicate polio), a van to the Mandarin Food Bank, and thousands of dollars to other local charities.
