More than 100 seniors celebrated St. Patrick’s Day at the Mandarin Senior Center with a corned beef and cabbage luncheon followed by entertainment provided by the Kavanagh Porter Academy, Jacksonville’s premier Irish dance school. The troupe of young dancers presented an array of lively Irish dance numbers that highlighted their individual and group talents. The Kavanagh Porter Academy is a transatlantic dance school with studios across the U.S. and in Ireland. The Academy offers instruction in Irish dancing for all ages and abilities from those just beginning to those students advancing to world wide competitions.
If you haven’t discovered the Mandarin Senior Center on Hartley Road, now is a great time to take advantage of its many services and activities. The center is open to all adults who live in the Mandarin area and are 60 years of age and older. All activities are free for members. A cold breakfast is served Tuesday through Thursday at 9 a.m., and a warm lunch daily at 12 p.m. Weekly offerings include line dancing, chair volleyball, exercise classes, bingo, mahjong, billiards, wood carving, ceramics, knitting, chair yoga, jewelry making, and field trips.
