Are you considering using the internet to find a spouse? It doesn’t surprise me that people look for a mate via online dating. Why shouldn’t they? Adults with jobs are often buried in projects at the office from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., 8 p.m., 9 p.m. or longer. How are they going to meet anyone?  October is a very popular month to get married in Florida. It’s a little cooler, and a little less costly than in June.

This summer, I was overdue to have my once-a-year stomach ache. Sure enough the aching began one Thursday night. Was it a virus or had I eaten something weird? I sure hoped it wasn’t a virus because I had been in a crowd of 60 for a couple of hours that morning. Had I given them all my germs?

Yesterday, waiting for our pool aerobics class to start, I chatted with a woman about reading.

She said, “I have 440 books on my Kindle.”

I was aghast. But then I asked, “How many of them have you read?’

When I taught creative writing in the early ‘90s I didn’t have a degree in teaching. I’d never even taken a teaching course. Teaching fourth and fifth graders in Ponte Vedra Beach, to practice on them before launching an adult class, seemed a smart way to go. The kids were my guinea pigs. It was a course for kids who liked to write. It was definitely not remedial writing. They seemed to like it, the parents were happy and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I’ve been thinking about comfort zones lately. My granddaughter, Mackenzie, a rising college junior, is off to Spain studying for a month.

“It will take me out of my comfort zone, Grammie,” she explained.
