Q. Your office provides marriage services, including licenses and ceremonies. Did the Clerk’s office do anything special on Valentine’s Day? 

A: Yes, we held our inaugural group Valentine’s Day wedding. Seven couples registered to have a wedding ceremony officiated by the Honorable Judge Howard O. McGillin. We look forward to hosting it again next year. 

Q. What is the role of the Office of the Inspector General? 

A: The Office of the Inspector General, under the supervision of the St. Johns County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller, performs internal audits, provides oversight of legal guardianships, investigates public integrity complaints, and conducts fraud, waste, and abuse investigations of County operations and financial records. 

Q. Does the Inspector General have any areas of focus for upcoming audits?

A: The Inspector General has roughly 20 audits scheduled for Fiscal Year 2023. The list of audits includes examining credit card fees countywide, auditing the Clerk’s office and county’s cash collection procedures, and protecting driver and vehicle information from unauthorized access.
