Residents in Nocatee will notice a new addition to their county park facilities in the coming weeks. That’s because workers from the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department will install a brand new water fountain and bottle refill station in the restroom area of the Nocatee Fields.

This addition is made possible by a partnership effort between the Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra and the St. Johns County Parks Foundation. The club is providing a grant of almost $2,000 that will go through the newly-formed St. Johns County Parks Foundation, which will, in turn, give it to the Parks and Rec Department for the equipment purchase.

A couple of years ago, leaders from the Rotary Club approached the Parks and Rec Department to determine if there was anything the club could do to help efforts in Nocatee parks and beyond. The result of that conversation was a commitment from the club to supply funding for at least one water bottle refill station at the Nocatee Fields.

“Our club members are among those who use and enjoy the facilities at Nocatee Fields daily,” says Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra President Josh Hull. “We thank the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department and St. Johns County Parks Foundation for the opportunity to provide relief to those who run, sweat, and play in our beautiful parks. It helps fulfill our Rotary mission of ‘Service Above Self’ and addresses the ongoing issue of providing clean drinking water to our world’s population.”

To celebrate the effort, members from all involved gathered at the restroom area of Nocatee Fields on Jan. 23 for a ceremonial big check photo opportunity.

Michael F. Payne, Sr., executive director of the St. Johns County Parks Foundation, said, “We are delighted that the Rotary of Ponte Vedra saw a need and fulfilled that need expeditiously,” Payne said. “We are excited about this partnership and this collaboration and hope that county residents will enjoy this generous gift for years to come.”
