The Character Counts! 6 Pillars 6K/3K Run/Walk was held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 at 9 a.m., beginning and ending at Palencia Elementary School. Walkers and runners enjoyed a scenic course running through the neighborhoods of Kensington and Las Calinas.
According to Christina Langston, chief of community relations for the St. Johns County School District, the race had 577 registrants and 497 finishers.
“The crowd support was amazing,” Langston said. “More than 90 students from our high schools made signs and were on the course to cheer the runners on.”
Also in attendance were mascots Bucky the Beaver, CC! the Pillar, Durby from Durbin Creek Elementary and the Lizzie Dolphin from Ketterlinus Elementary.
The schools with the most participants were Ocean Palms Elementary, 159; Liberty Pines Academy, 42; and Valley Ridge Academy, 25.
Race proceeds will support Character Counts! initiatives throughout the St. Johns County School District.
