ElderSource will be opening the doors to its newest resource, the Sharing and Caring Closet, a place where seniors and caregivers can receive free consumable medical supplies. The Sharing and Caring Closet will be inside the ElderSource office located at 10688 Old St. Augustine Road in Mandarin and open Jan. 30, 2024.

The closet was launched in December with a public request for donations. Community members and businesses responded to the “Shop and Drop” event held on Dec. 8 and 9 with generous donations of adult incontinence undergarments, waterproof pads for beds and furniture and other products. “Some of these older adults have expressed concerns to us that they feel alone, or that no one is looking out for them,” said Linda Levin, CEO of ElderSource. “I think this great turnout indicates that there are people in the community that do care, and we’re here to support them.”

Donations will continue to be needed throughout the year with the following items designated as “priority”: incontinence undergarments (both men and women, all sizes), waterproof pads for beds and furniture, Ensure nutritional drink (all flavors) and disposable, personal hygiene wipes. Clothing and food items will not be accepted as part of the needed donations.

The Sharing and Caring Closet located at the ElderSource offices will be open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. People may call the ElderSource Helpline or walk-in with a genuine request. Walk-ins will first meet with a Customer Service Specialist to assess their needs and help with connecting to resources in addition to the Sharing and Caring Closet. Closet items will be free to the public and available depending on current inventory. Items requested cannot be delivered and donations cannot be picked up. Donations can also be shipped directly to ElderSource through an Amazon wish list link on the ElderSource website, MyElderSource.org. A full list of requested items can also be found on the website. For more information email SharingCloset@MyElderSource.org or call the Helpline at (904) 391-6699.
